The Textual And Pragmatic Study Of Contrastive Expression In Modern Chinese

In this thesis, we have done an extensively and deeply study on the textual and pragmatic of contrastive expression in modern Chinese. There are five chapters in this thesis.Chapter one gives an introduction of the subject matters, relative studies, significance of studies, methods, aims and origin of discourse materials.Chapter two is talking about types and also the logical and cognitive basis of contrastive expressions. We classified the contrastive expression from two different perspectives, after that, logic characteristics and relative cognitive schemes are shown and are used to explain the contrastive expressions deeply.Chapter three is focus on the textual study of contrastive expression. First we are on the cohesion function of contrastive expression. Then we are on three relation problems, contrastive expression with topics, with discourse turns, also with information grade.Chapter four is focus on study of the pragmatic function of contrastive expression. The pragmatic function of contrastive expression of modern Chinese is rich and complicated. It attributes to two pragmatic motivations, politeness and feeling strengthening. Contrastive meaning intermittent appears in different usages of contrastive expressions, that’s the last interesting problem we are studying.The last chapter is the conclusion. It is a summary of this thesis and shows the further problems to study in the future.
