Various cultures differ in logical thinking and linguistic features. Therefore, in translation, any attempt to transfer the logic of the source document indiscriminately into the targetdocument without acknowledging the differences may lead to logic deficiency, confusionand disorder. The author believes that this logic difference is one of the major challenges intranslation. Based on the practice in translating THE DIARY OF C. Y. TUNG and through acomparison between the author’s preliminary translation and the finalized version, thestudy as presented in this thesis tries to demonstrate that in professional translation, thetranslator should focus on “communication” rather than “translation per se”. |
