Jacques Francois Antoine Ibert(15August1890-5February1962),as one of the most prominent French composers in the twentieth certury, injected his works with well combined impressionism and neo-classicism. He adopted various sophisticated and unique composition techniques on harmony and orchestration, characterized his work by rich color, varied rhythms, vivid atmosphere and sensitive approach. All his works manage to strike a good balance between preserving the traditional French artistic traits and also implying a new style of ethereal, lambent intellectuality. This thesis is written based on Ibert’s Flute Concerto(1934).Through a detailed analysis and a compilation of important performing techniques, hopefully it would give most flute players more comprehensive understanding on Ibert’s works for flute and hence being able to perform them in a more decent way. |
