An Initial Analysis For The Practices Of Dies Irae By Various Composers

Dies irae is a well-known Sequentia from the13th centry. The title was from the first line of the lyr ic Dies irae Diesilla. Since the tune was used by Berlioz for his Fantasy Symphony, the lyric was e mployed by the composers of Romanticism period for their works quite often. Up to date, the tune was employed by a number of composers of various periods. Dies irae alway represented death, d ark, fear, and ill omen in their music.This article is divided as several parts:the Introduction, three Chapters and conclusion. In the chap ters the writer gives her analysis to different composers’ works of various periods; in the conclusio n she demonstrates her viewpoint after the detailed analysis.
