This thesis relies on the researchof basic language policies and the comparisons of the language policies by Japan in the same period between China and the Korean Peninsula. It also provides a comparative study of the Korean language vocabulary between the Manchukuo Period and the modern time in order to reveal the Japanese foreign invasion and the great damage of Japan’s language policies in China’s northeastern areas on the later development of the Korean language.Language policy is a mandatory provision by the state power organization in order to achieve certain goals of language development. Because of the long lasting of feudal society, the issue of Han language building in China was not officially raised until the break out of the May Forth Movement in1919.However, the colonial rule by Japan in China’s northeastern areas left a profound impact on the development of China’s related language policy. Japan began its colonial rule in China since the Mukden Incident in1931until its unconditional surrender in1945and caused great damage to China’s related language policies. Meanwhile, after it occupied the Korean Peninsulain1910, Japan made detailed colonial education policies, established an integrated education system and set out mandatory provisions for the development of Korean language, which served as a precondition of its Korean language policy in the northeastern areas of China. As it strengthened its colonial rule inthe northeastern areas of China, Japan realized that national language education could not only promote the overall level of a nation, but also have a deep impact on the national development of science and technology. Therefore, Japan began to promote a variety of national language policies and compel these areas to take the Japanese as the "national language" in these areas. As thus, local minority languages including the Korean language were restricted within families, which caused continuous falling of the Korean language. Under the colonial rule of Japan, the language education in China’s northeastern areas ran off the basic goals of social education but rather an important supplementary means serving the needs of Japan’s political, economic and military development. This caused great damage to the local language development. Therefore, this thesis tries to dig out the language education policies in China and the Korean Peninsuladuring theManchukuo periodand analyze the education policies of the Korean language by Japan through the comparisons of language education policies in different areas. This thesis also aims to give a detailed analysis of the Korean languagevocabulary in order to provide a deeper understanding of the influence of Japan’s language education policies in China’s northeastern areas on the later development of the Korean language in China.
