| According to CiYuan, the explanation of ‘GanYe’ is that “one requestan interview because of his aspirationâ€. In the Han Dynasty, the phenomenonof ‘GanYe’became a kind of ethos gradually with the establishment of the‘Cha Ju’ official selection system. Since the Tang Dynasty,‘GanYe’hasbeen flourished with the establishment of the “Imperial Examination Systemâ€.To flatter those who are renowned or in power by using their poetries becamea shortcut for their official career. As an increasing familiar socialphenomenon,‘GanYe’poetry was appeared frequently in the Tang Dynasty,After the ‘Rebellion of An Lushan and Shi Siming’, the country wastroublous and the masses were living in misery, the literati were eager todevote themselves to the country, while the behavior of ‘GanYe’ was stillan important approach for scholars to aspire to their career. For the ‘GanYe’poetries in the later Middle Tang Dynasty, no matter from the aspect of theliterati’s zeal for ‘GanYe’, or the contents and literati mentalities of thepoetries, or the categorizational features of the poetry images, they weredifferent from the unique style of Glorious Tang Dynasty. However, most ofcurrent scholars focus on the researches of ‘GanYe’ poetry which in thebeginning of the Glorious Tang Dynasty, the studies and the treatises of theMiddle Tang’s ‘GanYe’ poetry are relatively rare. Therefore, the authormade a detailed discussion and research of the ‘GanYe’ poetry in theMiddle Tang Dynasty on the basis of predecessors’ research.This thesis is mainly divided into four sections: the introduction aims atdescribing the current research status of the Middle Tang’s‘GanYe’poetry,it lists many related treatises, and illustrates the significance and theapproaches of the research. The first section mainly illuminates the basicsituation of the Middle Tang’s ‘GanYe’ poetries, and analyzes the reasonsof the literati’s zeal for‘GanYe’poetries from two aspects: one is the fiercecompetition in the ‘Imperial Examinations’, the other is the separatist regimes and the powerful commanding officers in the Middle Tang Dynasty.In the second section, it mainly clarifies the types of the Middle Tang’s‘GanYe’poetries from the aspect of the objects of ‘GanYe’ and thecontents of the ‘GanYe’ poetries, including the ‘GanYe’ poetry forpursueing the success of Imperial Examinations, for waiting for being chosen,and for pursuing the devotion to official government. The third sectiondiscusses about the literati mentality which is reflected by the ‘GanYe’poetry in the Middle Tang Dynasty with the method of intensive reading,including the strong expectation for being sympathized and appreciated, aswell as the indignation for one’s unrecognized talent. The final section mainlyanalyzes the feature of image types of the Middle Tang’s‘GanYe’poetries. |
