Phonetic teaching is vital in the foreign language teaching.This is related to the wholedevelopment of the foreign language teaching and the schedule of the international promotion ofChinese.Neutral-tone is the essential character in the mandarin,which has the similar function to the fourtones.Most of the neutral-tone can distinguish meaning according to the stress shift. Neutral-tone can befound easily in the modern Chinese language.The occurrence rate is13.9%,which has little differenceamong other tones,like high and level tone (17.3%), rising tone (19.8%)and falling-risingtone(17.5%).(Shizhen Mao,YeJun2002:75).According to the statistics of Mi Qing(1986),Modern ChineseDictionary include56,000words,among which there are2,561words attach to light tones(not including theannotation words),accounting for the4.6%of the whole words.The thesis is mainly research the phonological sound according to the Thailand student’difficulties during the process of learning neutral-tone.The stimulus we used in our experiment is that weuse PSOLA arithmetic to regularly change the pitch and duration of the unspoken words.Then we make useof E-Prime2.0writing the experimental procedure.We put the combining and original stimulus into theprocedure.After that we implement the experiment according to the Thai Students.In our research,we findThailand students have the problem of categorical perception during their study of mandarinneutral-tone.The margin of categorical perception is located in the duration shorten of50%and interaction-30+50%.And,in the further study of the perception factors that influence the overseas students we find thefactors of pitch,dration and interaction of pitch and duration influncing the overseas students deeply.Inaddition,the power of duration is higher than the pitch.According the result of this experiment,we come up with some pertinent opinions.We suggest weshould use visual voice software Praat to teach Thailand Student in order to help the overseas studentsgrasp the methods of the mandern neutraltone in a rapid and convenient way in the future teaching process.
