Over the long history of music, a kind of form went through the course ofdeveloping from nonexistence to existence and from simplicity to complexity and hasformed its unique and intrinsic musical mode as well as characteristics based onhundreds of years of accumulation and development. However, due to constantadvancement of the history and modes of music, it is difficult for us to conduct a strictevaluation on certain form of music. Instead, what can be done is just to make ageneral classification according to the time when they are created. Take classicalmusic for example. People tend to call the music before the20th century classicalmusic, which is based on the proportion of their shared characteristics and attributes.Classical music carries and conveys the musical features of centuries, which can bedefinitely considered the foundation for musical study and creation. Since the20thcentury, with the opening up of global politics and culture reaching an all-time high, classical music with no exception blends into the trend peculiar to present era. Afterthe20th century, popular music, the music form for the broadest group, came intobeing, has been developing rapidly and gradually serves as the symbol and trend ofmodern popular music. Amid such trend, classical music works as basic elements formusical creation and meanwhile develops along with the trend of the times. This paper mainly elaborates the development of the elements of classical musicin popular music, explores their changes in the trend of modern popular music basedon a French musical play “Romeo and Juliet” and also tries to study and discuss themeaning and value of such changes and development. This paper can be generally divided into three parts. The first part summarizesthe histories as well as features of classical and popular music respectively. Thesecond part explores in depth their creation and discovers the traces of developmentof classical and popular musics with the former music play as carrier. The last partpresents author’s findings and understanding and states the inspiration that suchmusical phenomenon brings for personal musical creation. The body of this paper conducts a careful analysis of such traditional musicfeatures as melody, texture, structure together with orchestration as well as of thefeatures of modern electronic elements. And thus the author more clearly realizes thatthe development of the elements of classical music does not mean the development ofsingle aspect or superficial integration and development but means the joint efforts ofall internal perspectives of music. In additional, this paper also studies andsummarizes the methods and experience common in musical creation.
