Study On The Critical Consciousness Of Long Yingtai’s Works

Long Yingtai, Taiwan’s present Minister of culture, is also a well-known writerand social critic. Her broad cultural perspective comes from the blend of Eastern andWestern culture and the role transition between multiple social characters. Long’sLiterature, from her first incisive writing Wild Fire（1985）to Big Rive, BigSea-Untold stories of1949(2009), every one of her books can draw wide publicattention and strong repercussions, and can also reflect social problems that deservingmuch of our introspection.This thesis studies Long’s masterpieces by analyzing Long Yingtai’s criticalconsciousness. It also studies Long’s ideological implication through theinterpretation of her literature of all stages. It reflects Long’s strong socialresponsibilities and concern to people hidden beneath her severe criticism onproblems such as individualism, social culture and education.This thesis consists of Introduction, Text and Conclusion. The Text has fourconstituent parts which respectively present and explain in detail Long’s criticalawareness.The first chapter explores the formation of Long’s critical awareness inaccordance to Long’s life experience, cultural background and Taiwan’s socialenvironment in the martial law period.The second chapter is the main part of this thesis. Through the systematicresearch of four aspects in Long’s literature, critics to social environment, culture andeducation, the speculation of human life, this chapter further discusses her profoundideological implication within the books.The third chapter reveals Long’s critical strategy. Through her strategic writingmethodology and powerful wording, the reason of readers being shocked and feelingof closeness to Long’s literature is clearly presented.The fourth chapter mainly talks about the impact of social discussion Longcaused and the meaning of her literature to modern society.
