China is a big country of fishery, so fishing culture with a long history and rich inconnotation plays a very important role in the development of culture and history.Nowadays, in the context of the proposed marine century, fishing culture emits fascinatingbrilliance and unique academic charm with the characteristic of affinity with marine andpeople, cultural and the most important practical significance. Thus academic circles paymore attention to fishing cultural deepening and the related research has becomeincreasingly plentiful.In this thesis, fishing culture is researched via literature research method, comparativeanalysis method and interdisciplinary research method as the main methods. The theoreticalperspectives named culture change, proposed by cultural anthropologist Malinowski, isemployed to research and analysis fishing culture. In other words, fishing culture changesin the external morphology and internal structure which with the development of socialhistory. And after long-term accumulation and precipitation, this reflects the change offishing culture and its meaning and symbolism also will be changed. The literature researchmethod is a method to analyze and neaten related domestic and overseas books and theses,literatures of government and academic institutions, reports, seminars, the news andcomments of newspapers and magazines as well as periodical literature. The aim of thismethod is to fully comprehend related issue with real meaning and then an integratedviewpoint is proposed. The research status and existing shortcomings at present forconnotation changes and value of fishing culture are analyzed through referring to relatedresearches of journals and literatures. And starting point and viewpoint of research arefound and our research is based on previous researches. The aim of comparative analysismethod is to dissect the commonality and difference of fishing culture, fish culture andmarine culture through the collection, arrangement and analysis of related informationabout them and the comparison of them through various common indexes. It is necessary tocompare and research the differences of fishing culture, fish culture and marine culture fora comprehensive research on connotation and changes of fishing culture. Theinterdisciplinary research method is another method to adopt various theoretical knowledge,such as rural sociology, history and literature etc, to elucidate the connotation of fishingculture, to analyze the change of fishing culture and to evaluate the development andculture value of fishing culture. The outline of this thesis is as follow. The introduction is section1. The background,purpose, literature review, the content and method of this thesis are briefly introduced. Thesummary of fishing culture is section2. Starting with the concepts of culture and fishingculture, the connotation of culture is expounded from three aspects such as materialconnotation, spiritual connotation and system connotation and fishing culture is comparedand analyzed with the related cultures one by one. Changes in different levels of fishingculture are section3. The changes of boat dwellers’ production and lifestyle are adopted toexpound the changes in material connotation of fishing culture. The changes of Mazu beliefand sea festival are adopted to expound the changes in spiritual connotation of fishingculture. The changes of system are adopted to expound the changes in system connotationof fishing culture. The culture value and social value of fishing culture are section4. Therealistic guiding significance of fishing culture are introduced to expound the culture valueand social value of fishing culture. The discussion and conclusion are section5. The culturelagging problem generating by the change process of fishing culture is discussed in thissection. Then we summarize this thesis and fishing culture is prospected for further researchat the same time.
