Marriage Discourse In Ethnic Narration

This thesis selects Liaodong Manchu marriage folktale as study object, digging intothe hidden narrative and the picture of social life behind the story by deep analysis,therefore exploring the ethnic cultural traits contained in the Liaodong Manchu ethnicnarrative.Choosing Liaodong Manchu marriage folktales as a start point, this researchintroduces the study on the ethnic narrative and relative sexual narrative by a number ofidiographic texts, so can explore the theories that with the combition of folklore,anthropology and ethnology in multidisciplinary and multi-angle view,andThe Thesis contains six parts, including introduction, the body parts and conclusion:In the introduction part, significance of the subject, research status of home andabroad, fundamental theories and research methods are provided. Innovative points anddeficiencies are also pointed out.In Chapter One, an overview of the whole research is provided. The first part of thechapter sketches out the environmental and historical background of Liaodong Manchu,including natural geographic situation, population distribution, ethnic composition andmeans of livelihood. The second part outlined the narrative tradition of LiaodongManchu, especially the narrative tradition of local folktale. The types of folktale andtransmission modes are summarized.Chapter Two explains the theme of “marriage” of Liaodong Manchu marriagefolktale by thematology and typology of folk literature, finding out the common theme“marriage”. In the second part, Liaodong Manchu folklore is examined through variousaspects including structural semiotics, psychology and postmodern historiography, whichreveals the ethnic narrative and sexual narrative behind the stories.Text analysis is introduced in Chapter Three on Liaodong Manchu Folklore. Fourtypical stories are selected as samples and interpreted from different aspects in order toexplore the hidden cultural traits and cultural implications, revealing the experience andethnic culture of Manchu people and paving the way of the following analysis in ChapterFour. Chapter Four is the main chapter of the whole paper, including three parts. First,narrative connotation and regional culture are analyzed and interpreted in this chapter;Second, Manchu group psychology and morals are revealed from marriage narrative;Last but not the least, historical evolution and cultural development path of LiaodongManchu are constructed from cultural cognition and historical memory.In the Conlusion part, sorting out the narrative point of view and narrative context,female characters and people’s daily life are reflected, exploring the ethnic psychologyand the relevance and perceptibility of their nature. Marriage stories, with live value andclosed to people’ daily life, portrait the path of Liaodong Manchu historical developmentand spiritual evolution. The possibility of writing the history of Liaodong Manchu ethnicspiritual history are expected.
