Korean War was out broken on25thJune1950and end on27thJuly1953.Negotiation on prisoner of war was last for more than a year. On this issue,American army and south Korean army were slaved50000, and American army were9000,volunteer army were slaved22000(prisoner of south Korean army wascalculated in addition).In the late stage of negotiation, to occupy favorable, Americanarmy repatriated more than1000wounded volunteers,6000of the others went back tothe motherland,14000of the others went to Taiwan. All parties disagreed on“voluntary repatriation” or “full repatriation”, which became the crux of endlessnegotiation and fighting occasionally of the Korean War.In the international context of Cold War and the opposite of East-West Camp, Theprisoners of war who should be repatriated after the war has become a key link of thepolitical struggle between the Far East. In the power battle of countries, Questions ofthe whereabouts of prisoners of war run through the entire process of the negotiation.This paper analyzed the historical background and various causes of volunteerprisoners who go to Taiwan of the Korean War. On the basis of Organizing andreading lots of historical documents and research works, overall reviewing the issueswithin whole process of volunteer prisoners go to Taiwan.This paper contains five parts, except introduction and conclusion. First part ofthis paper, introduces the origin、production and development of prisoners. Throughthe warring parties’ huge investment and huge loss and analyzed that warring parties’uneven strength and tragic battlefield in the war. Finally, we can conclude theproduction of prisoners is reasonable. The second part, explains the background ofprisoners of volunteer, discourses the international forces related to Korean war in thecontext of cold war, two-china pattern formed after liberation war and ChiangKai-Shek’s “attacking the mainland” affected the prisoners of volunteer going toTaiwan. The third part, mainly introduces the influence of international factor onprisoners of volunteer to Taiwan, challenge from western camp, interference fromsocialist camp, differences with Korean and attitude of neutral had a deep influenceon prisoners’ repatriation. The fourth part, embarked from political struggle betweenthe communist party and Kuomintang on prisoners’ issue, analyses the reason basedon the different policies of mainland and Chinese mainland and Taiwan authorities.The fifth part, analyses the personal factor of complexity in volunteer army’s troop structure。This Paper used traditional text interpretation and causal method to analyze therelevant documents of prisoners of the Korean War. In addition, taken an objectiveand neutral perspective, absorbing domestic and foreign academic point and researchresults about volunteer prisoners. According to interpreting the known declassifieddocuments and analyzing various causes, expounded the essential reasons why thevolunteer prisoners go to Taiwan in the context of war.
