Hami, located in eastern Xinjiang,is the necessary land of coming and goingbetween Xinjiang and Mainland,as well as the vital communication line leading tothe Mongolia steppe. Since ancient times, all the travelers,poets and literary men aremore or less left their records and narration about Hami society. During the period ofthe republic of China in late qing dynasty, many foreign travelers, explorers andofficials have left the observation and recording of their social life in Hami. The papershows this period of Hami on social living conditions and real social situation behindthe observation in the eyes of them through these observations, records on residents,architecture, food, education and other aspects of the account.The paper is divided into five chapters. The first part of thesis makes a generalintroduction of research background and significance. the domestic related travelnotes of the papers, research methods,innovation points and deficiencies. The secondpart of the paper makes a simple introduction and analyzes history and geographicalconditions of Hami, and the magistrate characteristics of Hami during the late QingDynasty. In the third part, the actual knowledge during the late Qing Dynasty offoreign travelers, explorers, officials in Hamilton are discussed, involving theirpersonal feelings in Hami social life, including all aspects of the residents, clothing,construction, food, culture, education, etc. The fourth part of the paper introduces theHami karez,which was saw by the Chinese and foreign travelers, as well as HamiKowloon tree,which was appeared in many travelers, explorers and official’swording and purport of what they write. The last part is the summary that makes asummary summarizes the essence of social life during this period of Hami.
