Zhang Wenhu’s Comment of "The Scholars" has great significance in the"Scholars" in the history of this research, and the current systematic research on theauthor’s knowledge has yet left a blank. Based on the gentry status of Zhang Wenhu,this thesis investigates the main contents and artistic features of Zhang Wenhu’sComment on "Scholars”, explains its the art concept and political ideals, and fullyevaluates the elucidative value of commentaries on novels of gentry type, takingZhang Wenhu as an representative, and its contribution to the propagation of fiction.This paper is divided into three main parts:The first chapter is to define the identity the gentry status of Zhang Wenhu. Thefirst section expounds the background and process of Zhang Wenhu’s gentry status,taking his seeking, obtain and activities as a trail. The author hopes that through thisidentity of Zhang Wenhu’s gentry status, analyze the this personal gentryconsciousness of Zhang Wenhu under this experience. The second section discussesthe spirit lost gentry result from the the social unrest in the late Qing Dynasty andcauses the anxiety of Zhang Wenhu. Zhang Wenhu, who only can solve real dilemmathrough the local culture construction,especially novel critique in the field of culturewhich they excel.The second chapter is to analysis and commentary the commentary novel system,which represented with Zhang Wenhu gentry. The first section takes Zhang Wenhu asunique literary concepts, analyzes in-depth the novel concept of enlightenmentfunction, and expounds concisely the fiction irony. The second section baesd on thegentry’s educational background of Zhang Wenhu, analyzes the alternative use of theacademic thinking of Zhang Wenhu’s personal academic study of the history in thenovel commentary, including the study of the principles of objective and rationalcharacter research, the ability to research and through history scholars.
