The Chinese landscape painting has a long history, while the formation and development of earlyChinese blue and green landscape painting is the symbol of Chinese blue and green landscape painting.From the old word “Dan Qing” we know that the characteristic mode of early Chinese painting is mainlybased on colors. Landscape painting dominated in Tang and Song Dynasties. Yet, after Song Dynasty, colorwas gradually dispelled as senior position under the concept of ink first, color second. Until Yuan Dynasty,color was gradually in decline. From the history of Chinese painting, we know that the expression of colorwas one of the highlights of Chinese painting, and landscape painting played an important role in it.This paper tries to study mainly the origin of color of early Chinese landscape painting, trying todig deeply into the origin of landscape painting, probing into its color skills and the symbolic meanings ofcolor, together with the influences of color concepts from Confucius, Daoism and Buddhism from variousperiods of Pre-Qin to Wei-Jin, as well as the guidance from the superstructure, and then reach a conclusion.This paper is to adopt the method of account and comment by employing document and comparison,mainly the methodologies of case study, probing study and descriptive study.Up to now, most of the coloring of landscape painting is derived from the method of shallowcolor, few people step into studying the color of landscape painting. So, a further study of this field is reallysignificant. Such a study is not only to raise the status of coloring in Chinese landscape painting, but to findthe home culturally. Now more and more people put their emphasis on the coloring skills of landscapepainting, but they fail to dig into the origin of color. Such a tendency will surely cause a problem ofconsensus with painting spiritually. The choice of landscape painting is rooted in Chinese traditional culture.If this important cultural element is neglected, landscape painting is nothing but a sumptuous decoration.The influence of culture is a profound and decisive element. Originally, landscape painting is the beginningof Chinese landscape painting. People express their feelings to landscape by such a form and skill, tochoose and refine themselves in nature and culture, and finally create such a specific landscape painting.Based on such a consideration, this paper is mainly to probe into the reasons why the color ofearly Chinese landscape painting was formed, with an aim not only to analyze the reasons from painting skills, but to warn people today that painting is and should be refined from nature under the drive ofspiritual culture, and finally come to the condition of harmony of man with nature, and forget who I am, notmerely for the sake of skill.
