Application Of Grammatical Cohesion Devices In Translation Of The Worry Of Employment

Under the context of economic globalization, the translations with the increasingexchanges between China and western countries on politics, economy and culture,have witnessed a booming miracle, among which the translation of economic worksembodies a great significance of broadcasting the economics. Cohesion, as one of theimportant ties in composing a text, has already been the research focus for more andmore linguists, among whom Halliday made a profound contribution to thedevelopment of cohesion theory. Most of the studies of cohesion in translation,however, involve around literature works, but few concentrate on the economic works,owing to the fact that the economic works are fraught with recondite professionaltheory.This thesis, based on the cohesion theory of Halliday and Hasan and its previousstudies in translation, attempts to take the The worry of Employment, by the famouseconomist Guo Kai, as the case study and then makes a contrastive analysis of thecohesive devices in English and Chinese economic review text in detail. Through theanalysis of cohesive devices in the C-E translation of the economic review works, thisstudy aims at elaborating the importance of cohesion in translation. What’s more,some implications of application of cohesive devices to C-E translation of economicreview works have been stated to enrich the translation studies and practices.
