Marx and Engel’s theory starts from religion critique and achieve thephilosophical revolution in the history of philosophy. Their religious critique makespure rational reasoning into broad reality with a view to self-dissimilation of humanand social practice. For a more in-depth study of Marx and Engel’s religion criticism.With the aid of principles and methods on religious history,religious sociology andpsychology of religion,this thesis reviews Marx and Engel’s religious criticism frommultidimensional perspectives. This will help understand the connotation and realisticsignificance of Marx and Engel’s critique systematically in all directions.This thesis firstly critically examines the era context and traces the origin ofreligious criticism of the ideological roots. In the past,Marx religious criticism of theresearch made by scholars both at home and abroad only focus on Marx religiouscriticism from the social history. This thesis analyses Marx and Engel religiouscriticism from three dimensions--social, epistemology and psychology, and exploresthe relationship among the three dimensions. Based on the relation of epistemologicaland psychological dimensions, this paper uphold religious psychological dimension.That is to say, religious sentiment was epistemological dimension that is theperception of the world. At the same time, this paper also insist on religiousepistemology and psychology dimension in social and historical dimension offoundation and makes up for the deficiency of the past research on one dimensionthrough multi dimension of Marx and Engel religious criticism study.For today’s emerging religious society issues, Marx and Engel religious criticismhas a double meaning of theory and practice in contemporary China. On the one hand,Marx and Engel religious criticism theoretically and scientifically clarifies socialroots and social functions of the religious emergence and existence, and promotespeople’s understanding in cognitive function of religion comprehensively andobjectively, and encourages people to examine psychological function of religiontheoretically. On the other hand, Marx and Engel religious criticism requires thatpeople should properly treat and handle positive and negative function of religion,and points out that religious criticism must be rooted in social practice, guidingreligion to adapt to society.
