Published in2012, Narcopolis is really thought-provoking with its historical andliterature value and boasts of a large part of Chinese stories. This book does not onlyopen a window for us to view Indian world, but also enable us to see Chinese inIndian’s eye. Besides, we are sparing no effort for "Chinese Culture Globalization",which will induce more communication with the international world, and the chance ofmeeting back translation raises as more and more translated Chinese masterpiece areintroduced to foreign countries. We translators may have to handle much more aboutback translation. We are in no position to step back at this phenomenon. In thistranslated books, back translation takes a large proportion, so it is a good researchmaterial for back translation.Since R.W. Brislin has introduced back translation as a tool for InterculturalStudies, it has long been a stunning point in translation field. This translationphenomenon, a following product of global culture communication, covers workswritten in a certain language describing things happened in a country speaking otherlanguage.This thesis lists the typical Chinese stories in an Indian-English novel as examplesand discuses those translation methods including domestication, material choosing andcoinage to conclude that back translation is not only a traditional translation method,but also may become a new branch of translation studies.It digged out that text-based back translation and culture-based back translationshould use totally different translation method. So before translating such material,translators should at first differ this two kinds for utilizing concrete translation method.And it is hoped that this thesis would provide new material for back translationresearch and would improve people’s understanding towards Indian culture and theChina in Indian eyes.
