The Integration And Standing Career Of Shanghai Drama Society In "Isolated Island"

During the period of the Anti-Japanese War, Shanghai was called "Isolated Island". Actually,"Isolated Island" was the British、American and French Concession rather than it was the heaven in the War. Drama was going to unexpected prosperity in Chinese history’s darkest period. The Shanghai Drama Society was very special. It was an important continuator of China Left-wing Drama Movement in the "Isolated Island" period. The concept of Shanghai Drama Society contained much "Left-wing" color. However, the living environment was too complicated to perform dramas freely. The political environment was very different between Shanghai Drama Society and the Left-wing societies in the1930s. Not only that, how to adapt to the commercial tide and survive in the special period in Shanghai were such a big challenge to the Shanghai Drama society. The truth is the Shanghai Drama Society created the prosperity of drama in the special period, and the prosperity helped the drama to grow into maturity. How did the Shanghai Drama Society improve its performing art,adapt to the commercial market? Aiming at this problem, this paper mainly launches the research from three aspects as follows:Firstly, discover the playing history of Shanghai Drama Society in "Isolated Island" deeply. Secondly, research the values which contained in the scripts. Thirdly, research the operating mechanism of the whole club or a specific case. Through such research, this paper will show the hard work and success of Shanghai Drama Society. Obviously, the basic meaning of the article is to add Chinese drama societies’ history.
