In the isolated island period of Shanghai,A-ying's historical play "Eternal regret of Ming Dynasty" swept the "isolated island" arena,causing a huge sensation and a tumultuous response to the performance.A-ying also adapted it into a film script and put it on the screen.The drama "Eternal regret of Ming Dynasty" and the film "Eternal regret of Ming Dynasty " are the representative works of A-ying's drama and teleplay creation.Taking the drama "Eternal regret of Ming Dynasty" and the film "Eternal regret of Ming Dynasty" as the research subjects,this paper,by the research methods like textual close reading,combines with the historical materials,analyzes the artistic achievements and historical contributions of the drama and the film,and makes a comparative study of the drama and the film from the aspects of theme,characters,structure,and comments on public performance,etc.in order to explore the similarities and differences in the transformation from the drama to the film,and further probe into A-ying's historical contribution to the drama and screenplay creation in the isolated island period.This paper consists of the following parts:The introduction introduces the basic situation of the drama and film in the isolated island period of Shanghai,and the drama and film craze formed under the special historical background;introduces A-ying's drama and film activities in the isolated island period,and summarizes the research status of A-ying.The first chapter,from the perspectives of the theme,characters,drama structure,stage performance and drama review,makes a comprehensive analysis of the drama "Eternal regret of Ming Dynasty" and explores its originality in dramatic art.The stage performance of the drama "Eternal regret of Ming Dynasty" was very successful,which broke the record of Shanghai Opera,and formed a lasting upsurge of watching drama.The main reasons are that the popular drama mode,the distinct theme of resistance,the complicated characters and the strong cast,which not only provide an entertainment function for the audience,but also meet the psychological demands of the “isolated island” audience.The second chapter investigates the film "Eternal regret of Ming Dynasty".This part analyzes the artistic features of this film from three aspects: the narrative strategy of the patriotic film,the portrayal of upright and self-controlled characters,and the audio-visual presentation of the “modern costume films”.It explores the game and compromise of the patriotic film "Eternal regret of Ming Dynasty" in confronting the review of the authorities and upholding the patriotic thought,and the answer of how to find a balance between using the past to allude to the present and the propaganda struggle,and finds out the new breakthroughs from the characters,camera language and music settings.The third chapter,from the perspective of the transition from stage to screen,makes a comparative study in terms of three aspects of the character setting,theme and structure.In the aspect of character setting,the film uses the method of binary opposition to create characters,to highlight the hero image of positive characters,and to highlight the traitor image of the surrendered;in the aspect of theme expression,the film adopts the implicit way of allusion rather than the fierce conflict of drama;in the aspect of structure organization,the film takes advantage of film art and makes up for the deficiency of single line structure of drama.The differences in the transition from drama to film reflect the difficult situation of patriotic films with progressive consciousness in "isolated island".The fourth chapter summarizes the historical contribution of the creation of A-ying's drama and film script in the context of isolated island.In the aspect of drama script creation,it plays a leading and exemplary role in the creation of historical drama;focuses on stressing the narrative function of heroines,and shows the new concept of women.In the aspect of film script creation,it has opened up the theme of historical films of ancient costume,promoted the development of historical films of ancient costume;played the role of "cultural weapons" in the films,and advocated the national consciousness in historical films in ancient costume.The conclusion summarizes the contributions and limitations of A-ying's drama and film script creation in the isolated island period.
