The Evolution And Development Trend Of Modern Moso Walking Marriage

Constant attention has been paid to the modern Moso walking marriagein Yongning due to its distinctiveness. Since the founding of the People’s Republicof China in1949, the research on the Moso walking marriage has become a hotissue in Chinese ethnology. However, as for its evolution and development trend,there has been unfortunately no documents available that provide an objective,comprehensive, exact and credible summary or judgment. Therefore, it is essentialto review, re-analyze and re-judge the said marriage system in Yongning.From the perspectives of anthropology and FEI Xiaotong’s Theory of CulturalAwareness, this thesis, by choosing the Community of Shangcun, Village of Zhebo,Yongning, Ninglang Yi Autonomous County as the destination of field research,comprehensively re-interprets the modern Moso walking marriage system by meansof literature review, conversation and observation. This thesis is composed of sixparts. The first chapter is an introduction, illustrating the significance of theresearch, technical terms, literature review and research methods. The secondchapter explains the strong tradition of walking marriage, focusing on the objectiveand social factors keeping the tradition. The third chapter tells the culture of modernMoso walking marriage, analyzing its form and basis by citing the Community ofShangcun in the village of Zhebo. The fourth chapter shows the evolution andchange of modern walking marriage, comprehensively analyzing the reasons thathave shaken the system of modern walking marriage and telling the form in which the modern walking marriage evolves into diversified types of marital status. Thefifth chapter reveals that the diversified types of marital status are the developmenttrend of modern walking marriage, putting its focus on the objectiveness anddriving forces. The sixth chapter is a conclusion, on whose basis the generaltendency and other forms and related significance of the aforesaid marriage arereiterated.Since the Eighteenth National Congress of the Communist Party of China andthe Third Plenary Session of the Eighteenth Central Committee of the CommunistParty of China, a comprehensive reform has been advancing continuously andrapidly, and thereby the pace of the economic and social development in areas ofethnic groups. A correct summary and analysis on the culture of modern Mosowalking marriage, would definitely lead the whole society and media toscientifically and correctly recognize and publicize Moso walking marriage,efficiently put the economic and social development into sound track in areas whereMoso ethnic minority live, forcefully push forward the administration of the affairsrelated to local religion and ethnic groups, so as to safeguard solidarity andharmony among different ethnic groups and keep the long stability and peace ofsociety and the whole country.
