In this research, college students were tested. This study explored therole of emotion and event type in moral judgment. Video segments were used to inducemood states. There are three experiments in this study and each experiment involvedthree tasks, the first one is anti-social events, the second is stressful events, and the thirdis prosocialevents. The first experiment explored whether emotional valence can indeed influencemoral judgment. The results of Experiment1showed that compared with elatedparticipants, sadness primed participants rendered harsher moral judgment.Experiment2set out to investigate the effects of valence and arousal on moraljudgment. The result of Experiment2showed that the influence of emotions for moraljudgments depends upon arousal and not valence. Further, the experiment found thataroused participants rendered more demanding judgment.Given on difference between the valence and arousal in Experiment2, Experiment3examined the impact of arousal and emotion type (moral emotion and non-moralemotion) on moral judgment. The results showed that emotion type has no significantinfluence on moral judgment. In addition, findings from both experiments suggest thatarousal affects the moral judgment.Further, findings from these three experiments demonstrate that anti-social eventsand stressful events led to harsh moral judgments. The findings of three experiments reveal that the impact of emotion and event typeon moral judgment is independent of each other, and the impact of emotion on moraljudgment is mainly reflected in the emotional arousal.
