This is a translation project report, based on the8thand9thchapter of EstablishingSelf-Access——From Theory to Practice,which is written by David Gardner andLindsay Miller. The titles of this two chapters are “Physical settings and resourcing” and“From teacher-directed to self-access learning”, respectively. The8thchapter describesthe setting ways of teaching environment, the type of necessary equipments and theprocess of purchasing and management. The9thchapter discusses three phases inself-access learning: getting started in self-access learning, designing and implementingself-access learning and reflecting on self-access. This report is divided into four parts.The first part gives us a general introduction to this project, including its background,target, the significance and structure of the report. The second part mainly covers thedetailed analysis of the source text, consisting of main contents and languagecharacteristics. The third part introduces translation strategies adopted on the basis ofskopos theory and analysis of corresponding examples. The fourth part states asummary of the whole process. Establishing Self-Access——From Theory to Practice isa foreign-language educational book, of which main target readers are lots of teachers intheir job exercise, that offers guidelines to teacher-groups in educational field. Theauthor’ purpose is to make teachers understand facilities arrangements and the wayteachers instruct their students in Self-access Language Learning, thus apply it toteaching activity. Therefore, compared with literary translation, translator doesn’t needto focus on employing the beautiful words and complicated sentence styles. For thisreason, translator selects corresponding translation skills and strategies on the basis ofskopos theory during translation work to ensure accuracy and scientificity of translation,including inversion, amplification, division and so on.
