This is a translation project report. The original text is the English version of The Little Prince. Children’s literature is a relatively young literary style. Nowadays it is playing an increasingly important role in education and is causing worldwide attention. As a representative work of children’s literature, The Little Prince, first published in1943, is the most popular fairy tale in the20th century. Few stories are as widely read and universally cherished by children and adults alike as The Little Prince. It has been adapted to various mediums over the decades, including audio recordings, live stage, film screen, ballet, and operatic works. The Little Prince is not just an ordinary fairy tale. Its extraordinariness lies in its deep philosophical thoughts. No wonder Heidegger regarded it as the greatest novel of existentialism. This report elaborates on the difficulties that the translator encountered in the translating process and how the translator dealt with them by the application of certain theories such as conceptual metaphor theory and skills to them. In the end, the translator generalizes the translation project and comes up with a series of translation steps and tips as well as some problems still remaining unsolved, with the hope of providing references for the translation of stylistically similar texts.
