Born in Ningxia, I have a strong affection for its folk song and other art forms based on it. Following some famous folk song artists’style, I often imitate and record some famous items, such as Huaer, Feast Song and so on. Gradually, I begin to taste and reflect different styles and rhymes of Han and Hui’s singing, whose combination makes me interested and curious. What I am thinking is how to distinguish this kind of folk song.Having read lots of books on it, I find that most of them are about the general introduction while few of them focus on the unique feature of the folk songs of Hui. With the guidance and help of my supervisors and some experts, I refer to lots of documents and files. Then I realize only using the concept and methodology of anthropology, folklore and ethnomusicology, can I distinguish and analyze different singing styles. The present paper focuses on the topic of The Characteristics of Folk Songs of Hui People in Ningxia, which is rarely discussed. It tries to research and analyze the issue from the aspects of its origin, style, feature and characteristics.
