Toufik Hakim is one of the most prominent novelists in Egypt.He considered one of the earliest Egyptians studied in the west,have experienced with eastern and Western cultures.He was also the first author in the Arabia world,describe the clash between two different cultures.His autobiographical novel,the bird from the East,vividly describes the unusual experiences and feelings of the Oriental people who lived and studied in the western countries.This thesis takes the novel as the object of study.From the cultural point of view,through the close reading of the text,the author discusses the cross-cultural theme of the novel and makes its own valuation.The introduction summarizes the research status of the subject,defines the concept of "Oriental" used in the thesis and Toufik.Hakim’s works and his position in the Egyptian literary world are explained.Influence of western culture in Arabia world since the modern narrative,especially the French influence on Egypt,in order to provide a background for the following discussion,at the same time to form a contrast to the "Oriental birds".From the great difference of attitude towards religion,love and tradition,the author classifies the characters presented in the bird from the Orient,and tries to analyze the reasons for the differences.The author evaluates the bird from the East,and analyzes the writer’s cultural position through the narrative of the novel.The conclusion summarizes the full text and points out that the only way for the harmonious development of the eastern and Western cultures is to absorb the outstanding elements in other cultures on the basis of strengthening the local culture.
