Overlapping is an important pattern for word formation and word configuration in modern Chinese. There are a lot of overlapping in Hangzhou dialect. In This thesis, we will classified those overlapping forms with the Parts of Speech and focusing on these three points, word formation and word configuration forms, phonetic forms and grammatical functions.There are five chapter in this thesis. Chapter one is an exordium which introduce the background of Hangzhou dialect including historical causes, the phonetic system, research situation and research situation of overlapping forms in modern Chinese. Chapter two is about verb-reduplication including nine types of common sub-category: AA\AABB\ABAB\AA-kan\ABB\AA-er\A-ji-A-ji\A-fa-A-fa\AXAY. The first four are also found in Mandarin. The other five are common in Wu dialect. Chapter three is about adjective-reduplication including seven types of common sub-category:ABB\BB\AA-jiao\ABAB\AAB\AXAY\A-li-AB\BBA\AA-jiao, which are common in Wu dialect. Other five forms all can be found in mandarin. Chapter four mainly discusses noun-reduplication, adverb-reduplication and classifier-reduplication. Noun-reduplica-ton includes four common sub-category:AA\AAB\ABB\AA-er. Adverb-reduplication includes two common sub-category:AA\ABB. Classifier-reduplication also contains two common sub-category:AA-xiang\yi-AA. The first three forms of noun-reduplication and the AA of adverb-reduplication all can be found in mandarin but in different phonetic and grammatical functions. AA-xiang of Classifier reduplication is a typical Wu dialect form. The last chapter is epilogue. In this part will draw a conclusion about pre-viewers paper, comparison on Hangzhou dialect and mandarin, And the lack of articles, as well as propose some directions for future research.
