This paper is aimed to compare adjective reduplication forms which are "AA""ABAB","AABB" and "AAB" between Chinese and Thai. According to speech corpus, these forms is analyzed to obtain the semantic and syntactic functions based on semantic and cognitive theory, and utilize comparison and descriptive method to find out similarity and dissimilarity between Chinese and Thai adjective reduplication forms.This paper is composed of six chapters as following;Chapter one is an introduction contained research significance, research circumstances, and selected corpus detail.Chapter two is about Chinese and Thai adjective reduplication forms description and comparison, and showing the similarity and dissimilarity of adjective reduplication forms of these two languages, which include comparison of definition and type of adjective, adjective reduplication form, and other reduplication structures of Chinese and Thai.Chapter three contains an analysis of semantic and syntactic functions of four Chinese adjective reduplication forms based on Chinese linguistic research. According to relevant research, this paper found that semantic and syntactic functions of adjective reduplication forms relate to "level" and "quantity". In term of syntactic functions, the study focuses on limitation of syntactic composition.Chapter four contains an analysis of semantic and syntactic functions of four Thai adjective reduplication forms according to Chinese linguistic system, which semantics is divided into five parts:1) indicate characteristic of human or things;2) indicate level or quantity change;3) indicate emphasis;4) indicate subjective estimation and feeling of speaker;5) indicate new meaning. In term of sentence structure, these four types of form are able to be noun modifier, verb modifier, complement and object. Anyway, each form has its own function in sentence.Chapter five contains a result of comparison of four adjective reduplication form between Chinese and Thai in chapter four, conclusion of the similarity and dissimilarity between Chinese and Thai adjective reduplication forms., which could be helpful for Chinese and Thai learner.Chapter six is a conclusion of research’s result.
