Narrative Approach And Application In Narrative Dance

Particularly as a special dancing form, narrative dance is one of the most important partsof dancing arts. Some narrative dance materials are analyzed in this paper aimed to explorethe various narrative approaches of narrative dance. Literary narrative method and movienarrative method are used here to describe the structure and performance methods of thedance materials respectively.There are three chapters. In chapter one, based on literary narrative angle, narrativedance is divided into five parts by time perspective including chronological,reverse chronological, retroversion, flashback and divided narration. In chapter two, focusedon movie narrative angle, narrative approach is explored by space perspective. The materialsanalyzed both in chapter one and chapter two originate from five works as “Entering theCounty”,“Chinese Mother”,“Autumn Moon in Han Dynasty”,“NanJing.Shinning” and“Antelope’s Overcoat”, which are created in Dance Department of Music College in NENU.In chapter three, examples on how to apply narrative approaches explored are given. Twonarrative dance works that have complicated narrative structure and abundant narrativeapproaches are explained in details.Undoubtedly, research on narrative dance is meaningful and significant on narrative danceown development and the findings are instructive and advisory for narrative dance directors.
