Conceptual Blending Theory, also known as Conceptual Integration Theory, is thetheoretical framework which is to explore the meaning construction and informationintegration. Conceptual Blending Network by Fauconnier not only attaches importance to therole of context, but also reveals the dynamism of the process of meaning construction in termsof simple spatial structure. Conceptual Blending Theory illustrates the space mechanism ofthe dynamic generating of language meaning. It is convincing and has a strong explanatorypower to the dynamic, random, and vague motion of cognition and thought. It can be used toexplain many language phenomena. Conceptual Blending Theory plays a central role in thematter of how to study, how to think, and how to live. According to it, we understandmeaningsand continually create a colorful conceptual world.Since ancient times, translation has been a controverted topic. With the development ofhuman cognitive level, translation research is no longer confined to translation practice butcombine with Conceptual Blending Theory from the cognitive point of view.Poetry is a treasure in Chinese classical literature, and it is a wonderful work of Chineseliterature. Because of the refinement of the expression, the beauty of the rhythm, and richconnotations, poetry is the essence of Chinese language arts. Tang poetry is the peak of poetry.As an important part of Chinese culture, Tang poetry has long been regarded as the essence ofChinese poetry. It is enjoyed by Chinese people. English translation of Tang poetry is theworld trends and needs. Color is one of poets’ most important ways of expression. With thehelp of color, poets paint a beautiful, colorful and fantastic scenery pictures. Ever-changingcolors show the rich inner world of the poets. The translation of color terms is always theresearch direction for a number of translation scholars. In recent years, the translation of colorterms in Chinese ancient poetry also began to attract attention and discussion.Facing to the problem of insufficient research of the transmission of color terms,according to the emerging cognitive theory of Conceptual Blending Theory, this thesisdescribes the usage of color terms in the Tang poems and sums up the major blendingformations of conceptual blending process from the original text to the target text by utilizingliterature research method, descriptive research method, and contrast analysis method, whichnot only can help target-readers better understand the thoughts and feelings in Tang poetryand the aesthetic charm of Tang poetry, but also provides new methods for translators totranslate the color terms in Tang poetry better.
