| Wei,Jin and the Southern and Northern Dynasties period has greatly contributed to the supernatural tales creation, while the Qi and Liang Dynasties supernatural tales tradition has been a significant asset to it. Having the older supernatural tales as a basis, the Qi and Liang works have brought a great deal of innovation, including ghost image variations, more detailed and specific descriptions, and new original content. Thus, the supernatural tales have been improved in terms of literature, which was a step forward to the Tang legendary stories. Qi and Liang supernatural tales have a great literature and folklore value. In many respects, they have had a profound influence on the later literature; therefore their systematical research is important.Having Qi and Liang Dynasties supernatural tales as an object of research, this paper, firstly, analyses the background, content, and interpretation of Qi and Liang period supernatural tales. Secondly, the paper explores the inherent law of development of Qi and Liang supernatural tales from several aspects, such as the new novel forms and their causes, characteristics and aesthetics. Qi and Liang period is characterized by prevalence of religious thought, which certainly affects the literary creations of this period. Supernatural tales of this period are deeply branded with the shadow of Buddhist thought, from the technique to content. The paper explores the intrinsic connection between the religious thought and Qi and Liang supernatural tales, reflection of Buddhism concepts of reincarnation, karma and fusion of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism in Qi and Liang supernatural tales. The last part of the paper analyzes the literary value, folk legend preserve value, and historical value of Qi and Liang supernatural tales in detail.The main purpose of this work is to interpret the Qi and Liang supernatural tales’ influence on the forthcoming generations’ literature, expression of which includes artistic conceptions and prototype of the motif. |
