Since the18th People Congress, a grand blueprint for eco-civilization construction has been laid out. Eco-civilization construction is system engineering. It is closely related to every aspect of nature, society and human. As the most important communication tool of people, language is a kind of natural and social phenomenon. Therefore, linguistic ecology is a point of strong support for eco-civilization construction. Although the ecology of language of our country is rich and colorful, there are some hidden factors of disharmony. For dialects, their decline, their conflict with mandarin and their division have attracted increasing public attention with the rapid development of urbanization. While dialects are stepping towards predicament, people’s attitude towards them are still inconsistent. So the ecology of dialects is still worsening. At present, the strategy of new urbanization has been proposed. It pays more attention to harmonious development. The harmony of language is the manifestation as well as a cornerstone of social harmony. If the problems of dialect couldn’t be solved for a long time, they would probably threaten the construction of linguistic harmonious ecology, even influence the overall situation of eco-civilization construction. The reason dialect becomes a problem is that people’s perspective of dialect study is still conventional. The rise of ecolinguistics provides us a new viewing angle, and that is ecological outlook. All the languages including dialects are not self-sufficient systems. They all need to have space, resources and functions, while ecological niche of a language or dialect is the sum of its existence condition and value. This paper combines ecological niche theory, which is a research hotspot of ecology with dialect study to present the concept of dialect ecological niche, and then take Hangzhou dialect for example to discuss relevant issues of its ecological niche from the perspective of eco-civilization construction. This paper falls into six parts.
