A Report On The Translation Of A Textbook Of Translation

This translation report includes four parts, the description of the translation task,the process of the translation, the analyses of difficulties of the translation and theconclusion derived from the translation task. The source text is the first two chaptersof the book A Textbook of Translation, written by Peter Newmark. During thepreparation stage of the translation, the author read the two chapters carefully andstudied the structure of the sentences, the usage of the words, in order to get a betterunderstanding of the stylistic, lexical, syntactic and cultural characteristics of thesource text. The analyses of the difficulties in the translation are the most importantpart of this report. The author represented the thinking process and the applications ofvarious translating strategies in detail through the solving of lexical, synaptic andcultural difficulties. The last part of the report is a summary of the translation practice.It demonstrates the author’s experiences and feelings of this translation practice andputs forward prospect of other translation practices in the future.
