Nikolai Vasilievich Gogol-Yanovski (Никола й 'асил ьевич Гог оль-Яновский) has ever beenlocated in limelight of Russian literary studies and ideological researches. He was normally defined as aRealist throughout the19thCentury, which was based upon V. G. Belinskiy and therefore caused misreadingand partial comprehensions. During the Silver Period of Russian Literature in the20thCentury, however, hewas newly interpreted by theologico-philosophers from the Modernist and Postmodernist view-angles inthe strict perspective of belles-lettres. Further on up to the day, these approaches have been reaching a sortof panorama.This thesis intends, with reference to the heritage of the aforementioned religious approaches, tocarry out a comprehensive study on the author’s life facts, literary creation and his spiritual realms, thustracing the entire span of his personal history and literary activities, analyzing his orthodox ideas embodiedin his works, exploring the interactions between his theological ideology and his literary outlook, andtherefore, hopefully, to sort out his vital influences, exhibiting his qualities of a Prophet and thecorresponding values of the Revelation, finding answers to the riddle of his mystery and tragedy, for mypotential readers to gain a more profound and comprehensive understanding.
