Francois Mauriac , a celebrated French writer in the 20th century and the winner of Nobel Prize for literature in 1952, enjoys great reputation in the literary world of France and even of the whole world. Taking western literature history as the platform, the thesis has carried out research into the theme of his novels. It can be roughly divided into the following three aspects : Ⅰ. Analyse alienation from people caused by material wealth , with respect to conjugal relation and parent-offspring's relation in his novels . Ⅱ. Explove "desire" and "original sin" to peer into the sinner' inner world. The sinners created by him have "souls " ,which gives them a similar characteristic to the "thinkers" created by Dostoyevsky and differentiates them from the "hollow men" . Besides that , Mauriac exerts both sin and punishment on them, and thus uncovers their tragic existing situation.Ⅲ.Show threelinks that save the sinners——God, Tepentance, and love to understand Mauriac'sstrong religious consciousness and optimisty of saving the world.
