Each writer has their own language system and personal style, which is an important sign of a maturewriter language. Although Liu Ke’s " City and the city " has been a pioneer and master of fiction achievingthe unprecedented highly praise, the study on Liu Ke’s works mainly focused on the pioneer skills ofwriting novels and the narratology without in-depth exploration on the language. Therefore, the authorattempts to make an overall research on Liu Ke’s novels, analyzing and looking into his unique languagestyle at different stages, and then summarizing his novelistic language arts. Liu Ke, known as a word addict,is also paying great attention to literary languages and studying them creatively and theoretically. At theend of2013, based on the perception of many years, he spent five years writing two theoretical works:"Modern Novel Language Aesthetics " and " Chinese Modern Novel Language history ", and held apoetics seminar at Henan University which got a great success and response. So it is quite necessary tostudy Liu Ke’s novel language. This article explores the language of Liu Ke’s works from four aspects:Part one,language features of the early Yangtze-Chu series of Liu Ke.First, In series of Yangtze-Chunovels, Liu Ke created a jerky musical beauty by using the overlapping words, overwhelming repeatedparallelism, and diverse sentence patterns, embodying tortuous beauty, balanced beauty, intricate beautyand circumflex beauty.Second, the image of the novel language.With his unique artistic sense, Liu Kecaptured the feeling of color and used color plate subtly. Through the contrast among different colors andchanges of shades and light, he led us into the world of art, and made his novel language full of accuracy,vividness and figurativeness through adopting various rhetorical methods such as metaphor, hyperbole,personification and parallelism etc.Third, strong geographical and cultural characteristics.During earlynovels, Liu Ke used dialect, crude slang words, chant songs, customs, geographical terms, and charactertitles to broaden the theme of the novel, thereby shaping the typical characters with natural and simplelanguage. Meanwhile, these descriptions about the regional cultures enriched the fictional languageresources.Part two, the hypertext of modern poetic series.According to the specific characteristics of hypertextwriting that Liu Ke concluded, the author analyzed the fictional meta-language, cross-textual and intertextual writing and startling expressions to unfold Liu Ke’s hypertext features. fiction sexualcharacteristics. Liu Ke carried out a language game by the wanton interference in narrative and interpretingthe fictionaliy of novels; Liu Ke novels inserted multiple literary forms and disciplines which endowed thelanguage with cross-border freedom. His work is known encyclopedia fiction, creating a new aestheticnorms; the masterpiece of Liu Ke’s avant-garde novel " City and the City " is called a finality of Chineseavant-garde style of writing, an innovation of contemporary Chinese fiction writing, as it mainly focusedon the creation of new Chinese aesthetic principles. The author chose the language defamiliarization,linguistic signifiers of word games and Hermeneutics law from dozens of methods to show Liu Ke’spowerful language skills.Part three, exploration of new stylistic languages of short stories; this chapter studies the languagefeatures in Liu Ke’s short stories, combining three areas including the language features of long, middleand short literary pieces, narrative style and outstanding language sense of Liu Ke’s short story.Finally, the author made a summary about the trail of language changes through the language contrastof Liu Ke’s works of three stages: from the passionate narrative into a cold narrative; from the pursuit ofplausibility, holistic traditional narrative to deconstruction plausibility and the meta-narrative of entirewriting; from the single narrative style to cross-stylistic miscellaneous narrative. The author is tosummarize Liu Ke’s achievements of literary language by viewing Liu Ke’s background of language andliterature and his specific practical experience in the modern novel language.
