As a report on the consecutive interpreting (CI), this dissertation describes one CI taskconducted by the author for the2013TAFISA International Certified Leadership Course (CLC)in Sports for All (Nanning, China), analyzes the interpreting of two speeches deliveredrespectively by a lecturer from TAFISA and a local speaker from Administration of Sport ofGuangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and discusses the influences of non-verbal behavior on CIfrom the perspective of non-verbal communication. In this report, the process of the task has been divided into eight phases according to timeorder, each with a different focus and function. Typical examples are selected for analysis of theinfluences of non-verbal behavior on CI from the perspective of non-verbal communication andthe use of profiling strategy in the preparation phase prior to the interpreting. The task description and analysis further prove that CI can be influenced by non-verbalbehavior. If body language is properly observed, understood and deployed by the interpreter, ithas a positive influence on the interpreters’ stages of understanding, de-verbalization andreformulation. If environmental language is properly arranged by the interpreter, it plays anactive role in CI of the interpreter’s attention distribution. Communicative efficiency andaudience’s recognition can be undermined by the interpreter’s disfluency caused by undue silentand filled pauses. Profiling strategy is recommended during the preparation phase prior to theinterpreting to improve the interpreter’s efficiency and accuracy of searching efforts.
