European Enlightenment as ideological and cultural movement to flourish, risingin the17th century in England, flourishing in18th century France, and spreading toGermany, Russia and other European countries. As a rational soul and heart of theEuropean Enlightenment, will undoubtedly become enlightened scholars breakthrough the darkness, out of ignorance, and embrace the bright razor. Freedom is thecore of enlightenment thinking scholars, enlightenment thinkers are trying to achievetrue freedom through active social reform, education becomes a logicalEnlightenment.Locke and Rousseau formation of philosophical ideas of liberal education,political and religious foundation. Philosophically, they have to feel the experience onthe basis of materialism, Locke proposes the “whiteboard said”, pursuing empiricism,and Rousseau advocates instinct theory, following naturalism, but all the principles offreedom. Politically, they have advocated liberalism, emphasizing freedom andequality, Locke believes that freedom is the premise of equality, and Rousseaubelieves equality and freedom protection, but have advocated to achieve sovereigntyof the people by way of a constitutional monarchy or a social contract. Religious, theyare advocating deism, Locke believes in a rational God, and Rousseau original“conscience of God”. In addition, they form a liberal education is also affected by thesocial environment and the ideological and cultural traditions and personal lifeexperiences.Locke and Rousseau are very respected liberal education, the former tends torational education, emphasizing the rational norms, and the latter promotes emotionaleducation, focusing on the emotional mold. Moral education as the best form ofrealization of freedom, much favored by Locke and Rousseau, they follow theprinciples of utilitarianism and naturalism, adapt and conform to the rational nature,moral education to develop a detailed and practical approach to education content, topromote the rational development of the human body and mind.The purpose of Locke and Rousseau’s ideas of liberal education is to nurturetalent social reform, or a gentleman or “a natural person”, thus achieving theirpolitical goals. As a “foreign Shuo” and “On the issuance of” two major trends guru,Locke and Rousseau’s educational ideas, not only in the age of Enlightenment shining bright light, but also has an important reference in the field of education today.
