For researching McIntyre’s virtue practice, the author uses the discussion of therelationship between practice and virtue in after virtue as the breakthrough point ofthis dissertation. In McIntyre’s construction of virtue concept, practice concept isconceptual background of the first stage of it. Practice concept as the basis andpriority of the virtue concept, with the unity of a human life, traditional concepttogether construct perfect virtue concept. However, the characteristics of standards ofexcellence of practice concept are ideality, priority, universality, and closeness. Thesecharacteristics in conflict with the characteristics of the virtue practice which arereality, conventionalism, situationality and innovation. And these conflicts causenegative effect to the virtue practice. McIntyre emphasizes the collaborative practiceas the most important practice way. But he ignores other practice way, and leads topoverty of virtue achieving. The most important intrinsic factor of practice concept isthe intrinsic interest, which McIntyre regarded it as the most fundamental practiceachieving. However, the consequences of one-sided emphasis on the intrinsic interestis giving rise to the virtue practice underpowered, formalization and fuzzification ofthe virtue concept, and so on. For McIntyre, the core task of the virtue conceptconstruction is returning to teleology. Virtue ethics in McIntyre, the individual goodand the common good is the purpose of the virtue practice, and the common good is atthe top of the structure of purpose, also the ultimate purpose of virtue. However, it isillusoriness of the individual good and the common good. How to go from theindividual good across to the common good, virtue practice did not give the answer.Practice concept is the basis concept of the virtue concept construction. From theinternal elements of practice to investigate and found that inner conflicts between theinternal elements and virtue. This is an innovative, but a difficult point. Trying toreveal the dilemma between practice concept and virtue concept is great significantfor exploring McIntyre’s virtue ethics. In addition, domestic ethics bound puts moreattention to the virtue ethics and in-depth research of it, and there is still a vastpossibility of future study, that is why this dissertation chooses this topic.
