This thesis is a research on the translation of Report on the Work of the Government (2013) from the perspective of critical discourse analysis (CD A).The annual Report on the Work of Government (RWG) covers the information in the fields of politics, economy, culture, diplomacy, wellbeing and so on, which is an authoritative source for the international community to learn about the national conditions and development situations in China, so the quality of the translation of RWG is increasingly important nowadays. The previous studies related to the translation of RWG mainly focus on the linguistic features, while this thesis discusses the relation between linguistic forms in RWG and ideology, as well as the significance of CD A in guiding researches on translation of RWG.CDA advocates that language is determined by social functions and differences of linguistic structures are the manifestations of differences of ideologies. Applying the theory of CDA and analytical methods of systemic functional grammar (SFG), the author makes a contrastive analysis of the source text and the target text of Report on the Work of the Government (2013) from the lexicogrammatical patterns of classification, transitivity, modality and transformation. And through the contrastive analysis, the differences of linguistic forms between the source text and the target text are discovered. With a detailed explanation about the causes of these differences, the research reveals the relation between linguistic forms and ideology as well as the influence of ideology on the translation of RWG.Therefore, in the translation of political discourses like RWG, the ideological factors have a great influence on the choices and applications of linguistic forms, and the applications of language also influence the spreading and understanding of ideological meaning. In addition, CDA is helpful to improve the translators’ability in understanding the differences of linguistic structures and ideologies between the source text and the target text, so that the ideological meaning of the source text can be expressed in a way that is favorable to the target readers to accept, and the quality of the translation of RWG can be better improved.
