Franz Liszt started writing the Concerto No.2in A Major for Piano and Orchestra in1839, and kept modifying it in1849,1853and1857. The work was finally completed in1861, and was published in1863. The creation of the work spanned more than two decades, which shows the importance to Liszt himself. He applied the techniques of composing symphonies into the composition of the Concerto, and strived to achieve the tremendous breakthrough of his own limits. It was the period when Liszt tried to get rid of the flamboyant composing style, and began to pursue a retrospective view of his mind and the inner peace of his heart. His glamorous techniques and passionate emotions made him the king in playing piano. Liszt had a devil’s genes, but Concerto No.2in A Major for Piano and Orchestra was full of the angelic sentiments with the intention to purify one’s soul with the music, which particularly appealed to me for the in-depth study of this work.
