Animation is a comprehensive art, it can be presented as traditional Chinesepainting, oil painting, printmaking, sculpture, and other traditional art, and can also becombined with the camera-language, it feels like an audio-visual performance feast,bring beautiful enjoyment to the audience. Animation is a film art with assumption,shaping characters and building environment through a variety of forms. Thefoundation of animated works lies in its script. Because of the special forms,sometimes experienced novelist or writer also can’t write in this form of animationscript. How to create a good animation works is an important subject that animationpractitioners never stopped research, and the creation of script is the NO.1subject.This paper focuses on animation script elements: stories, role personality shaping,contradiction and conflict.Five thousand years precipitation of Chinese history provides us vast materialand creative space. We have lots of inheritable national culture; the folk culture is oneof the major subjects. It contains a wide range of content; this paper studied theworship and awe of Chinese zodiac, fairy tales about the folk gods, the folklorebehind the traditional festival and unique ethnic festival customs, etc. The contentmay not be able to cover all the folk culture, but the easiest part which can be imitatedor reference in the animation script. This culture, as a rear depot of Chinese animationscriptwriter, provides the nutrients for our animation soil; helps the flowersblossoming in the animation garden.There are two parts in this paper. One is the comprehensive analysis of thearticle conception: research background and significance of this topic, and carries onthe analysis about present situation of domestic and foreign animation. The secondpart is the body part: including animation script elements, the representation andcomparison of Chinese and western folk elements in the animation script, as well asthe thought and inspiration that folk elements bringing to us.Although the article has many outstanding animations as examples, it does notadvocate mechanically learning. To absorb essence and reject the dregs is the way toperfect their own animation script. At the same time, although this article advocates drawing material from folk culture, it does not mean ‘plagiarize’. Using folk elementsrequires a certain skill in innovation and adaptation. In this era, when creativitymeans triumphing, content helps winning; there are no ordinary forms of animation.We shall pay more attention to spiritual and cultural innovation; any ideas will requirecreators’ strong feelings and injection of fresh vitality to the figures. Thisaccumulated experience of folk customs has both ingenuity and occlusion. Thus, tomaster the resolution methods is the better way to let the past serve the present, andcreate excellent animation works.
