| This is a translation report on Virus of the Mind: the New Science of the Meme by RichardBrodie. This book, from a more practical perspective, makes a research on the familiar affairs toreveal the knowledge of memes and memetics, making it a popular book in the world. In thistranslation project, the translator selects the introduction part, chapter one, chapter two andchapter three. Its content is an integration of memetics and memes with people’s daily life, whichattracts the readers’ interest and stimulates readers to learn meme-related knowledge. Such aprocess fulfills the purpose of helping people to improve life by understanding memetics andmemes. Beside the introduction of related knowledge, the whole translation process can betreated as a full embodiment of memetics. Translation is a process which is a combined work ofall kinds of memes. This report falls into four parts. The first part is a brief introduction to thisproject, including the background, the target and the significance of this translation task. Thesecond part is the analysis of the source text, including its author, content and stylistic features.The introduction to the studies of memetics at home and abroad is also included in this part. Thethird part illustrates the difficulties in translation process and imparts the memetics knowledge toreaders through different translation cases with the help of various translation theories. At thesame time, it is proved that translation is a combination action of all kinds of memes. The lastpart is the enlightenments from this translation project. |
