Ceramic is a special art. It is the kind of art that fuses water, fireand earth which form the practical and beautiful vessel. Song dynasty isone of the periods in which Chinese ceramic reaches its maturity andprosperity. It represents the overall level of fire craft in history ofceramic art. In the history of ceramic, as an non-mainstream art, kiln,with its particular artistic style and simple characteristic, drawspeople’s attention and has a profound influence on folk art.According to the ancient kiln site of Wali mountain in HunanXiangxiang, this thesis researches the features, artistic values andinfluence of kiln of Song dynasty. It further proposes strategies ofprotecting and inheriting traditional art and folk industrial art. Thethesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter is introduction. Thesecond chapter introduces the history, transformation and developmentof kiln of Song dynasty in Wali mountain. The third chapter, on thebasis of the form and design, analyzes the characteristics of kiln in Walimountain and in south of Song dynasty. And through this analysis, itemphasizes the significance and necessity of searching kiln of Songdynasty in Wali mountain. The fourth chapter investigates the values ofkiln of Song dynasty in Wali mountain. And the fifth chapter discussesthe protection and inheritance of kiln of Song dynasty in Walimountain.
