Translation Practice Report Based On The Paper Of The Foreign Journal

Academic articles are the main channels for the dissemination of academicinformation. Along with the increasing frequency of academic exchanges at home andabroad, the translation of academic papers has been paid more and more attention. Thistranslation practice report is based on the translation of an academic paper in an originalEnglish academic journal named language in society: The interplay of languageideologies and contextual cues in multilingual interactions: Language choice and code-switching in European Union institutions，which analyzes multilingual practices ininteractions inside European Union (EU) institutions. On the basis of the fieldworkconducted in EU organizational spaces throughout2009，investigators explored differenttypes of communication in order to illustrate how Members of the European Parliament(MEPs) and officials at the European Commission practice and perform multilingualismin their everyday work.Translation ariation theory is applied during this translation practice. Translationvariation refers to the translating activities which extract the main ideas of the originaltexts by means of adding, deleting, editing, narrating, contracting, combining, rectifyingetc. according to the specific demand of the specific reader under the specificcircumstance. This report studies the characters and principles of the original textstranslation, analyzes problems in the translation process. Three translation strategiesadopted for words translating are terms, uncommon meaning and the recreation of newmeaning. Three translation strategies including deleting, rectifying and narrating aredrawn on sentences translating.In the whole translation process, this report summarizes that a good translator shouldnot only prepare well in advance but also should combine the rigorous and conscientiousattitude with the selection of proper strategies together. In order to overcome theshortcomings exposed in the translation, the translator should reinforce the basic Englishskills, enhance the Chinese expression ability of and increase translation practices.
