With the widespread of English as a language of international communication, moreand more people in China begin to learn English. But it is very common for ChineseEnglish learners to make mistakes that are not always grammatically wrong but somethinginidiomatic or inadequate. That is called Chinglish, a mixture of Chinese and English. Thiskind of language is usually considered as a serious problem affecting the quality of C-Etranslation. And there are already many researches concerning the causes of thisphenomenon and how to avoid Chinglish. In the author’s opinion, Chinglish, as a kind ofinterlanguage, does have lots of negative impacts, influencing communication as well asdamaging the international image of China. It is evident that we should try our best to avoidthe phenomenon of Chinglish. In order to avoid those negative impacts resulting from it,we’d better understand its causes and find out the possible solutions. Moreover, we mustacknowledge some positive influences of Chinglish, such as enriching the development oflanguage and enlarging parts of English vocabulary.In this thesis, the author attempts to make some systematical researches on Chinglish,which is a common phenomenon in C-E translation. By illustrating its typical examples,causes and possible solutions under the theories of interlanguage, such as Odlin’s languagetransfer, Piaget’s Genetic Epistemoloy and criteria of successful translation, the authordiscusses the negative impacts of Chinglish in different perspectives. In addition, the authoralso realizes the positive aspects of it and believes that the phenomenon of Chinglishshould be treated more objectively and systematically.
