This passage studies the Information Design. Nowadays, the area of Information Designwhich is still at the early stage of development starts late but demands greatly. The object ofthis article is to analyze this problem precisely from the aspect of rhetoric and to get theuseful as well as feasible theories, strategies, methods from the relatively mature rhetorictheories, trying to understand Information Design more clearly.This article enters into the topic from the definitions and concepts of InformationDesign. Then,aiming at the confusion between Information Design and Informationvisualization, give the elaborations,distinguishing proves as well as the primary reasons.This passage tells us that Information visualization is one of the segments of InformationDesign and the causes for this phenomenon are the close correlation of Information Designand Information visualization as well as the effect of the physical characteristics of human.This passage concludes the origin,development of Information Design,the varieties ofproblems existing in the current information era referring to information and the changesduring the process of progress, according to the relative literature and materials. What’smore,it finds out that Information Design developed from two-dimension tothree-dimension; statics to dynamics; independent to interactive; single to synthesize;realistic to virtual.Then,this passage analyzes and draws the conclusions on the relationship betweenrhetoric and design area and the possibility of application; moreover, it further specifies theevidences of theory. By studying Declaration by Design: Rhetoric, Argument, andDemonstration in Design Practice, the great work written by Professor Richard Buchananon rhetoric, I sort out Information Design, analyze the relationships among various types ofInformation Design and the relative methods, strategies of different types which include theInformation Design mainly aiming at claiming and at persuading.Stating the purpose is thebasic attribute of any Information Design and is, obviously, constructed based ondemonstration. As for the Information Design which telling the aim, the main use ofrhetoric is applying the suitable rhetoric figures of speech to design the performance ofInformation Design.The other type can take the following strategies:the hiding persuasivestrategy on technological theory; affection heading persuasive strategy; traits givingpersuasive strategy. When designing, the aims of design need different sorts of presentation to realize.
