The Stress Management Model Of Sanitation Workers Based On Public Service Motivation

City sanitation workers are among social groups that are often neglected bythe pubic. While city sanitation work is a high-work demand, low-resourcesupport occupation, the special characteristics of the job determined that theworkers have to take higher work pressure than many others. In academicstudies, sanitation work also lacks attention, studies on the stress and motivationof sanitation workers are very rare.This article investigates sanitation workers of A district in Shanghai,applying theories of stress, using methods of structural interview, random surveyand statistical analysis, looked into the current health status and pressure sourceof sanitation workers. Creating the “basic stress, personal stress, organizationstress, social stress” sanitation worker stress model, through factor analysis.Studied the effect of population variable, education background and work lengthon stress. Proving the damage strss has on worker’s health through relativeanalysis and regression analysis.Stress and PSM（public service motivation） are two very importantsubjects in the field of public management, but the link between the two hasonly become a new topic of study over recent years. Du to the fact that currentstress is hard to alter, this article suggests to introduce a form of encouragementto reduce the damage of the sress. And since sanitation work is a form of pubicservice, the concept of public service motivation can be introduced. According to theories of public management, higher levels of PSM can reduce health risks,and this is proven through analyzing the statistics of the survey.In the process of research, we found that the industry characteristics of thesanitation workers are very important. The sanitation workers mainly focus onsalary welfare in the stress, while in terms of overall low education backgroundand individual differences, in the background information, a certain degree ofinfluence on research results. And, in the process of research, found that thepublic service motivation have both positive and negative effects, it need tostudy further confirmed. This article will analyze the negative effect of stressand positive effect of public service motivation.Finally, the article suggested several solutions based on PSM fororganizations and enterprises to under take sanitation worker stress management,increasing work efficiency for city sanitation.
