A Translation Project Report Of Abrupt Impacts Of Climate Change: Anticipating Surprises(Chapter Three And Chapter Four)

The source text of this translation project report is Abrupt Impacts of Climate Change: Anticipating Surprises(Chapter 3-4). It is a research report written by members of the U.S National Research Council and published on the U.S National Academies Press(NAP) in 2013. The source text analyzed the process of climate change and its impacts on different areas of human society. At last, the NRC suggested that an Abrupt-Change Early-Warning System(ACEWS) should be set up to monitor climate change for all countries in the world to respond to climate change effectively. In this sense, this translation project is of great significance.By analyzing the linguistic features and the type of the source text, the author took Peter Newwark’s text category theory and his semantic and communicative translation as theoretical basis. In order to ensure the authenticity and accuracy of the target text, the author turned to several translation methods including conversion, division and inversion to solve difficulties in the process of translation. In addition, some examples were cited for detailed explanation.In the last part of the report, the author summarized the translation experience and lessons and other unsolved problems. One’s ability would be improved in the process of translation. It is important for translator to have excellent bilingual abilities, extensive knowledge and the ability to control the quality of translation.
