A Translation Project Report Of Translation And Web Localization(Chapter 5)

This is a translation project of Translation and Web Localization written by Miguel Jiménez-Crespo, of which Chapter 5 Web Localization and Quality is the source text. With the popularity of globalization and international strategy of multi-national company, localization service industry is becoming the trend of the future translation industry. Therefore, researches on localization have emerged. The selected text of the translation project mainly discusses the quality issues in localization and translation industries, and describes the definition, standard and evaluation of translation quality in great detail, which is of great significance to the quality assessment of localization industry. As localization is an emerging industry in China, there are few researches in this area. The translation of this chapter not only makes practitioners of localization industry attach more importance to translation quality, but also attracts more professionals and amateurs to focus on the emerging area. Meanwhile, selecting the academic text as the source text of the translation project can improve the translation capability of the translator. It is an academic text analyzed on the basis of its language feature and translated under the guidance of dynamic equivalence theory. Dynamic equivalence emphasizes the content of the source text(ST), expecting the receptors of the target text(TT) have the similar response as receptors of the ST do. Besides, the primary task of academic text translation is to convey the original message in the TT. Therefore, the dynamic equivalence theory is applicable to the translation of an academic text. It is required that the translator should express the original content accurately and retain the academic style of the ST as much as possible.The structure of this report is divided into four chapters: Chapter one is the overview of the translation project, including the project background, objective, significance and main content. Chapter two is the description of the ST, including information of the author and the ST, and analysis of the text type and language features of the ST. Chapter three is mainly concerned with the discussion of the equivalence on the lexical, syntactic and stylistic levels supported by Eugene A. Nida’s dynamic equivalence theory. In addition, three translation skills—sentence splitting, order rearrangement and synchronizing are introduced in the translation of the academic text to solve the difficulties. Chapter four is the conclusion of the translation project, describing the experience and limitations of the translation process.
